IMPUDENT THEFT
NOTES GRABBED FROM TILL Press Association. _ _ DUNEDIN, Sunday. About 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon a man tendered a £1 note in payment for a bottle of whisky in the bottle department of the Excelsior Hotel. As the barman was getting the change from a cash register, the purchaser asked to have the cork drawn from the bottle. The barman left the till open and began to comply with the request, but as he was bending to draw the cork the stranger leaned over and, grabbing a handful of notes from the till, made a hasty exit. So far nothing further has been heard of him. The licensee of the hotel, .Mr. W. Quirk, estimates his loss at between £ls and £2O.
