OTOROHANGA COUNTY COUNCIL

A scheme for the appointment of a drainage board, to deal with the Mangapu and Mangakewa Rivers, was before the Otorohanga County Council at its last meeting. The total cost was estimated at £14,000, and it was stated that good low-lying land between Te Kuiti, Hangitakh and Otorohanga could be served. A special committee will investigate the scheme. It was decided to increase the general rate by 1-16 din each riding to meet maintenance cost of metalled and unmetalled roads.

A petition is to be sent to the Government praying that the upkeep of the roads in Arohena Settlement be taken over by the Public Works Department. There were 33 miles of road to maintain, at a cost of £l5O a year, and rates only amounted to £3O.
