ACTRESS AWARDED £3,100
ROBBED OF HER ROLE Judgment was entered for £3.100 with costs in favour of Miss Fay Marbe, the American actress, in her action for damages against George Edwardes (Daly’s Theatre), Ltd., in connection with the production of the musical comedy “Yvonne” at Daly’s Theatre, London. Miss Marbe was engaged to play the part of Lolotte, and maintained that she suffered damage to her reputation because of the company’s refusal to allow her to play the part. She also alleged that a letter written on behalf of the company meant that she secured the engagement by wrongly representing that she was well known and in great demand in the United States. Mr. Justice Horridge held that Miss Marbe was entitled to recover the £3,100 awarded her by the jury at the end of March, in addition to the payment made into court before the trial.
