RUGBY CHALLENGE

SHALFOON SHIELD WON BY ROTORUA (From Our Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI. To-day. The Shalfoon Shield challenge match, between Rotorua (challengers) and Opotiki (holders), was played on the Domain on Saturday in cold and wet conditions. There was a surprisingly large number of enthusiasts to watch the game. Despite the slippery ground both teams gave a good exhibition of Rugby. Rotorua had slightly the advantage of the first half, kicking a penalty goal. The second half was a great struggle, Pewini scored for Opotiki in the last quarter. With only a few minutes to go the points were even. Both teams made desperate efforts to score, and in the last minute Basham scored for Rotorua, the game ending Rotorua 6, Opotiki, 3. The victorious Rotorua junior representatives were entertained at a dance in the evening.
