SERVICE CAR FALLS THREE HUNDRED FEET
STEERING GEAR LOCKS; CAR LEAVES ROAD AT MOTU CLIFFS (From Our Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, To-day. A Cadillac service car, travelling from Opotiki to Motu. went off the road on the Motu Hill, near Mr. Caesar’s place. It appears that the steering gear locked and threw the car over the edge of the road. Particulars are vague, but it is stated that the car fell 100 ft. and was then held up by a tree or undergrowth. Later it fell another 200 ft and is now damaged beyond repair. At what stage the passengers left the car is not clear, but the driver, F. Andrew, and the other occupants received severe cuts and bruises. They were taken to Motu, where they received attention from the district nurse and are reported* to be progressing favourably. The car is insured, but the owners will be heavy losers.
