POTATO MARKET NOW EASIER
SHIPMENTS FROM SOUTH AMPLE MAIZE SUPPLIES The scare caused last week among Southern potato speculators through the action of Auckland merchants looking elsewhere for future requirements, and placing an order in Tasmania has, from the Northerners’ point of view, diad the desired effect. Southern operators are now more prepared to meet the buyers’ ideas of value, and sales have been made on an easier market. The Wingatui unloading to-day brought a large parcel, and further consignments, mostly sold to arrive, are expected to come to hand next week. As yet no further orders have been placed across the Tasman. Maize requirements are now being met by regular shipments from the Bay of Plenty, and Gisborne exporters are also operating on a market which brings the cost to merchants at approximately 6s on the wharf Auckland. Forward sales indicate that ample supplies will be available for near future requirements. Onions continue over supplied, though the local product is gradually deteriorating and will soon be only a minor factor on the market.
