MAJESTIC
FOUR SEMI-FINALISTS The programme to be presented at the Majestic Theatre for the first time to-night promises to be one of the best that has been shown for a long time. The four Auckland semi-finalists in the “Miss New Zealand 1927” contest will appear at the evening sessions, and will demonstrate their acting abilities in selected screen and stage acting. This will be presented as a brilliant stage novelty, and gives the public every chance of voting for the best girl in the four semi-finalists. Claire Windsor, the popular actress, who starred with success in “The Dixie Handicap” and “The White Desert,” scores a veritable triumph in “A Little Journey,” a delightful comedy romance which is the chief pictorial feature. Miss Windsor portrays the daughter in an impoverished New York family and she journeys West to become the bride of a wealthy friend, who has rendered her parents financial assistance. On the train, however, she meets a handsome, irresponsible young man who sees in her the possibilities of a pleasing flirtation. The friendship of the two young people develops and many amusing and exciting complications result, before the picture is finally brought to a happy conclusion. William Haines and Harry Carey are cast in the leading supporting roles. Proclaimed by eminent scientists and naturalists as the greatest picture of its kind, “The Gorilla Blunt,” a splendid film illustrating the recent expedition into the heart of darkest Africa, by Ben Burbridge, the noted American hunter, and his party, is the leading supporting picture. An Auckland yachting film, “White Wings,” and the latest topical gazettes will also be screened. The All Soloists’ Orchestra will render a selected musical programme and the overture, “The MerryWidow.”
