“DICKENS AND THE LAW”
NOVELIST’S ADMIRERS MEET Last evening’s subject at the fortnightly meeting of the Dickens Fellowship was entitled “Dickens and the Law.” A large gathering of members and friends of the fellowship met in the Y.W.C.A. Clubrooms, Customs Street. The vice-president, Mr. W. E. Aroy, occupied the chair. Mr. Gordon Grant gave an introductory sketch of the subject, and readings were given by Mrs. J. D’Authreau on “The Lowliness of Chambers”: Miss Statham, “Bumble’s Opinion of the Law”; and Mr. T. Clarkson, “A Queer Client.” The topic for the next meeting, to be held next Wednesday, week, will be “Nicholas Nickleby.”
