PRICES AT WESTFIELD A FIRMER MARKET With the exception of pigs, the market for practically all classes of stock was distinctly firmer at Westfield yesterday. Bullocks made up to £l4 17s 6d, wethers up to 32s 3d, ewes to 26s 3d, and an exceptionally heavy vealer tip to £4 6s. Well-finished prime steers made from £ll 7s 6d to £l2 7s 6d; lighter prime and smaller-framed from L 9 5s to £lO 7s 6d; badly-iinished lightframed steers made from £4 10s; heifers made up to £S for an exceptionally prime yard. Prime heifers and young cows made from £6 to £6 15s: prime old cows made from £4 10s to £5 12s 6d. A small yarding of vealers registered a sharp advance in prices, one pen, on. account of J. Wyllie, of Papatoetoe. making to £4 6s. Heavy vealers sold at from £3 8s to £3 16s, medium from £2 15s to £3 6s, smaller from £2 to £2 12s, small and fresh-dropped, 5s to £1 ISs. A yarding of approximately 1,700 sheep met with keen competition and values were decidedly firmer, especially was this the case in regard to ewes. Big-framed wethers comprised the greatest portion of the offering, though the majority could have been better finished. An exceptionally well-finished pen of big-framed wethers sold on account of J. R. Self, Papatoetoe, topped the market at £1 12s 3d.

Big-framed wethers not extra prime made to 31s. A truck of light-skinned Opotiki wethers, not well-finished, made to £ 1 10s. Smaller-framed prime wethers made from £ 1 8s to £1 9s 6d; light and unfinished from £1 5s 6d to £1 6s 6d.

A short yarding of ewes met with keen competition and the market was up to Is in advance of last week. Wellfinished, young, small-framed ewes made up to £1 5s 6d: prime old ewes £1 Is 6d to £1 3s 6d; just killable ewes, from 18s 6d.

Lambs give the smaller butchers little concern at this time of the year, and the big butchers and exporters are practically the only buyers operating. The market yesterday was slightly easier, with the demand confined chiefly to light-weights. Prime heavy skinned lambs made to £1 5s 6d; lighter prime, 21s 9d to 23s 9d; seconds, 19s 6d to 21s 6d; small and plain. 17s 6d to 19s 3d.

A small yarding of pigs met with a dull sale, values being at late quotations. Choppers sold at £3 10s to £4 11s; heavy and medium baconers, £3 9s to £3 15s; light baconers and heavy porkers, £3 to £3 7s; medium porkers and light porkers, £2 10s to £2 18s; small and unfinished porkers, £2 to £2 Bs. Store pigs in average numbers sold at late quotations. Large stores made £1 10s to £1 17s; slips, £1 2s to £1 8s; vveaners, 12s to £l.
