JACK DEMPSEY AND SHARKEY TO MEET
FIGHTERS PREPARING VAST CROWD EXPECTED By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Tuesday. Dempsey and Jack Sharkey, who are scheduled to meet in a 15-round bout on July 21, to determine which will fight Gene Tunney next September, have begun active training. Dempsey is at a watering-place near New York and Sharkey at a local gymnasium. The ex-champion weighs about 14st 91b, and after preliminary training periods in the mountains on the Pacific Coast is said to be in fine condition.
Both fighters went through light sparring sessions yesterday and today, and during the week-end, they will take on heavier sparring partners.
It is expected that three weeks will be ample to put both in excellent shape. The fight, which will be held in an open-air arena within the city, is expected to draw.a crowd in excess of 90,000, and gate receipts of over 1,250,000 dollars.
