DEATHS BY DROWNING
LOSS OF YOUNG LIVES SCHOOL SWIMMING CLASSES (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. Need for compulsory swimming instruction in connection with all primary schools where facilities may be provided lias been raised again. The statistics obtained by the Wanganui Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association for 1924 clearly indicates that the lo§s to the State of valuable young lives by drowning during the summer months is very serious. The figures are enlightening:
The above figures do not include death by dro waning of Maoris or by suicide. When it is taken into consideration that almost all the lives lost are during a few months of the summer the position may be regarded as one requiring the serioiis consideration of the Government.
