GREAT WAR VETERAN’S DEATH

THE LATE MR. D. E. FOSTER Mr. David Elliott Foster, of Valley Road, Henderson, who died on Saturday at the age of 46. was born in Masterton and educated in Auckland. After 12 years' service in the railways, he sailed from New Zealand with the Main Body in 1914. He served in Egypt and took part in the landing at Gallipoli, attaining the rank of sergeant. Wounded on Gallipoli he was invalided to England. but later took part in the second battle of the Somme and was also at Passchendaele. He was again wounded in France and returned to New Zealand. He was mentioned in despatches and recommended for a commission. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife and two young sons.
