A BAD ROAD

The continual wet weather has had the effect of making the Opotiki-Gis-borne road at Matawai a quagmire, and as a result the various motor services have decided to abandon the run from Gisborne to Motuhora. Passengers will now entrain at Gis'oorne. and will be picked up by the service cars at Motu and thence carried to Rotorua or Tauranga, en route to Auckland. Last year the bad stretch of road was closed by the Waikohu County Council, but this year no action has been taken, the cars running until the road became impassable. It is understood that the usual services will not be resumed until about September. During the coming summer it is hoped that the road will be attended to by the Main Highways Board. Plans for work on this road have been approved by the No. 4 Highway Council. A very, large number o'’ people now travel to Auckland by this route, and the number is rapidly increasing each year.
