A GREAT RIDE
SUTHERLAND’S FEAT “DEADLY LONELINESS” Alex, Sutherland, the Auckland longdistance road race cyclist, returned to Auckland this week after his long ride to Wellington, looking little the worse for his strenuous experience, although still feeling rather stiff and sore.
Sutherland’s ride was accomplished under the worst possible conditions —in the middle of winter, on bad roads and, in the later stages, in the worst of weather. To add to his difficulties the car which was to have accompanied him, could not make the journey, and with the

My actual riding time was 53 hours, and if anyone can beat it under the same conditions, good luck to him.”
