Limerick Fancied in Melbourne Cup

WILL GET BIG WEIGHT HANDICAPS OUT TUESDAY One of Melbourne’s big ante-post bookmakers is already operating on the two Cups (Melbourne and Caulfield), although the weights are not due until June 28. His first lists have reached Sydney, and he offers a wide market, but it is not to be expected that transactions will yet show stable intentions with the weights still unknown. Form and anticipated improvement on the part of English and other horses are mostly relied upon in formulating the list. AT SHORT PRICES Thus Amounis, one of the best w.f.a. horses, and Royal Feast, last season’s best two-year-old, share with the Newmarket winner, Gothic, an English horse, expected to come good as a stayer this season, the honour of favouritism for the Caulfield Cup. No risks of Royal Feast not proving a stayer are to be taken. He is favourite, too, for the Melbourne Cup in company with the champion of last autumn’s weight-for-age races, Limerick. It looks as if Limerick is to be kept in the front line for a long time, even in the face of the possibility of his getting a big weight for a four-year-old in the Melbourne Cup.
