WAITEMATA’S ROADS
GRANTS FOR WORKS COUNTY COUNCIL MEETS Several road works were arranged for at the meeting of the Waitemata Council meeting yesterday, Mr. H. Day presiding. A reduced grant of £7,078 from the Main Highways Board to the Waitemata County Council will be allotted, as follows: Birkenhead to Albany, £3,000; Albany to Massey Road, £2,200; Kumeu-Albany, £125; Lincoln Bridge to Kumeu, £1,500; TakapunaSilverdale, £168; Oteha Valley Road, £BS. The board, it was stated, had curtailed its grants and disorganised the county’s programme. Work on the Albany-Birkenhead Road could not be suspended. A tender for clearing slips from the Huia Waterfront Road was accepted from W. R. Ernst at £lB2. Milne and Company’s tender of £675 for the construction of an approach to Brown’s Bay Wharf was accepted. The £1 for £1 grants on the Public Works estimates for 1927-28 have been allotted:—Titirangi Riding: JBrooklynHuia Road, £350; Atkinson Road, £IOO. Waikumete Riding: Forest Hill Road, £150; McLeod Road, £SO; Parker's Road, £150; Shaw Road, £l5O. Waipareira Riding: Forest Hill Road, £100; Cemetery Road, £100; Pomaria Road, £150; McElwain’s Road, £IOO. Waitakere Riding; Red Hill Road, £450. Kumeu Riding: Old Auckland Road, £100; Museum Endowment Road, £100; Ararimu Valley Road, £9O; Annandale Road, £150; Foster’s Road, £SO. Mairetahi Riding: Pahunuhunu Road, £SO; Evans' Road, £100; Fordyce’s Road, £SO. Kaukapakapa Riding: Rapson’s Road, £490. Wainui Riding* Silverdale-Wainui, £190: SilverdaleWhangaparaoa, £100; Whanga paraoaTiri Tiri, £100; Stoney Creek Road, £IOO. Pukeatua Riding: Silverdale-White Hills Road, £300; Albany-Parernoremo Wharf Road, £l5O. Birkenhead Riding: Green-hithe-Cuthill Road, £450; Rosedale Road, £4O.
