THE RHODES DINNER
COLONIALS AT OXFORD By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Wednesday. There were 160 people present at the annual Rhodes dinner at Oxford. They included 10 former Australian Rhodes scholars and three former New Zealand scholars. Lord Lovat, who presided, explained the new Rhodes travelling scholarship of £1,200 a year for graduates with five years’ professional experience. Mr. R. Scholl replied on behalf of Dominion students. He discussed the question of the age limit for scholars. Whereas an American delegate wanted Rhodes scholars sent when they were young, Mr. Scholl suggested that if scholars were chosen when they were 21 or 22 they would be able to profit from their experience.—A. and N.Z.
