PONSONBY BOYS’ BAND
A Successful Year That the Government’s refusal to give permission to hold an art union and “surprise packet” carnival to raise funds for the Canadian tour was the cause of the abandonment of he scheme, was stated at the annual meeting of the Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band last evening. A new junior band with a membership of 27 boys was doing well under the conductorship of Mr. F. G. Lawn, it was said, while a high standard of efficiency had been attained by the senior band of 53 boys. During the year a new band hall had been secured, the furniture for which was presented by the president, Mr. W. Cecil Leys. The finances were in a satisfactory state, the accumulated assets being shown at £ 1,234,' with profits for the year amounting to ,£32. Officers were elected as follows; President. Mr. W. C. Leys: committee, Messrs. V. Johnson. W. Jackson. W. Lusty, R. Francis, W. Saxon, R. Short, W. Dear and W. Gear; treasurer, Mr. J. Whitfield; secretary, Mr. J. D. Hurfit.
