HARBOUR BOARD THREAT
TRAMLINES AT BAYSWATER FERRY COMPANY WARNED JJNLESS the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company, Ltd., removes the tram-rails from the Bayswater Wharf approach, the work will be done by the Auckland Harbour Board and charged to the company. This action is the result of a request by the Bayswater-Belmont Progressive Association, asking the board to re-erect a fence and form a footpath along the western boundary of the reclamation. The Harbour Board made inquiries, and at its meeting yesterday afternoon made the following recommendations, which were accepted: “That th» Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company, Ltd., be notified that it is not complying with the conditions
Sk of the grant of tramway rights, and it be instructed to put the road in good condition, to the satisfaction of the board, and remove the rails if it requires them; and that if these conditions are not complied with within 14 days the board will re-enter, remove the rails, and make good the roadway at the cost of the company. “That, as the Devonport Ferry Company, by running motor-buses over the footpath provided for foot passengers, has destroyed it, the company be notified that if it wishes to continue to run buses it must restore the footpath or construct a new one in another position, to the satisfaction of the board. “That the Devonport Ferry Company be notified that permission to run buses will be withheld unless it makes and provides a roadway, and keeps the same in repair, to the satisfaction of the board.”
The chairman, Mr. 11. It. Mackenzie, said that the road was in a shocking condition, and that the Devonport Company had destroyed the footpath. The agreement had been practically broken.
