TOWN HALL

MUNICIPAL CONCERT Music lovers will realise many fine moments at the beautiful concert to be given in the Town Hall on Saturday evening next by the Municipal Band and assisting artists. The band will play Wagner’s glorious masterpiece, the “Tannhauser” overture, and a noble selection will be heard for the first time at these concerts from Boito’s “Mefistofele,” which will reveal some wonderful music. In lighter vein the band will give charming renderings of the “Intermezzo” from “Cavalleria Rusticana,” and the “Bacarolle” from ‘ The Tales of Hoffmann,” also a sweet selection from “Bilac Time” and a fantasia from the operatic works of Offenbach. A lovely cornet solo, “Softly Sighs,” from “Der Freischutz,” will be played by Mr. Fred Bowes, to a special accompaniment arranged by the bandmaster. The vocalists, Miss Alma McGruer, soprano Mr. A. H. Ripley, tenor, and Mr. Ernest Thomas, basso, will sing a series of specially prepared numbers from the operas “Romeo and Juliet” and “Faust,” which will heard for the first time at this concert.
