QUESTION OF REMOVAL HOSPITAL BOARD AFFAIRS In response to the Auckland City Council’s request that some of the Domain shelters for tuberculosis patients be removed to allow for extensions to the winter gardens, the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, said when the board met yesterday that he had already intimated willingness to remove the shelters. A circular was received from the Hospital Boards’ Association asking for information as to the treatment of tuberculosis. It was agreed to send the information so that it could be* placed before the conference to be held in Wellington next week. Thei relief committee reported having considered a large number of applications for relief during May. The causes of the applications were: Unemployment, 144; desertion, 46; sickness, 97; old age, 24; widowhood, 71 imprisonment, 7; insufficient means, 21; mental, 3. The medical superintendnt’s return of patients was as follows:—In wards at last return, 535; number admitted since, 757; number of deaths since, 56; number discharged since, 656; number remaining at date, 580; number of operations in hospital for period ended May 31, 614.
