EMPIRE CONFERENCE OF CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
AT CAPETOWN IN OCTOBER IMPORTANT REMITS On October 4 to 7 delegates of the Federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire will meet at Capetown. Remits from all parts of the Empire will come up for discussion. The question of arriving at a fixed date for Easter is a remit backed by the executive council of the federation. The executive welcomes the recommendation of a special committee of the League of Nations that Easter should be held on the Sunday following the second Saturday of April and to that end delegates will be invited to place the recommendation before their respective Governments. Both the Huddersfield and London Chambers of Commerce have submitted remits emphatically protesting against the taxation of non-resident principals through agents and consider that the lead given by South Africa in repealing this class of taxation should be followed by all* constituents of the Empire. The Trinidad Chamber asks for a preferential tariff on Empire produced petroleum products.
