New South Wales Parliament.— The Executive Council has further prorogued the State Parliament until July 12. Opening of 2YA.—It is reported from Wellington that the official opening of the broadcasting station 2YA has been fixed for July 16. Mexican Clash.—Fourteen Mexican rebels and three soldiers were killed in a clash between Presidential troops and the insurgents in the State of Jalisco. —A. and N.Z. Cable Fuses. —The City Fire Brigade received a call to the corner of Queen and Fort Streets at 2.59 this morning to suppress a blaze caused by the fusing of a cable. No damage v-as done. Australian Pastoraliat’s Death.—The death has occurred of Mr. A. H. Whittingham, one of Queensland’s most prominent pastoralists and sportsmen. He was in his 58th year.—A. and N.Z. New German Ships.—Germany has placed orders for two 46,000-ton passenger steamers. She intends to essay recapture of the blue ribbon of the Atlantic services.—A. and N.Z. A Late Night.—Are you in favour of closing hotel bars at the same time as other businesses, the Hon. J. A. Young was asked during his speech in Hamilton last night. The Minister replied that he saw no reason why that should be opposed. A voice: "And have a late night on Fridays.”
French Bandit Arrested. —The arrest is reported from Brazil of a notorious member of the Bonnot gang, the bandit Robert Dieudonne. This man escaped serving a sentence of imprisonment for life on Devil’s Island for complicity in the murder of a bank messenger in Paris in 1913. —Sun.
Territorial Officers* Course. —Starting on July 24, a special course of instruction. extending over a week, will be held at Hamilton for Territorial officers. About 20 are expected to be present from Hamilton and the surrounding district. Colonel Duigan (Auckland) will probably have charge. Six Months for"*Car Thief. —George Huia Brewer, aged 21, was sentenced to six months at Grey mouth yesterday for unlawfully converting two cars to his own use. It was stated that Brewer was serving a term in Wellington for theft, but escaped in May last, making his way to Greymouth.— Press Association.
Trade Delegation in Dunedin.— Members of the British trade delegation were accorded a civic reception on their arrival at Dunedin. A luncheon was tendered to the delegation by the Chamber of Commerce in Somerset Lounge Savoy, over 100 Dunedin business men being present.—Press Association. -T
