MAJESTIC

“THE RED MILL” “The Red Mill,” a delightful story of Dutch village life, an adaptation of the well-known stage success of the same name by Victor Herbert and Henry Blossom, is the principal attraction on the programme of the Majestic Theatre. Marion Davies, the popular actress who was a great success in “Little Old New York” and “Beverley of Graustark,” fills the leading role, that of a little Dutch girl who works for her uncle in his tavern in Vollendam, known as the Red Mill. When skating on a frozen lake, the girl meets a young man with whom she falls in love. He visits her uncle at the mill, but to the girl’s distress does not recognise her. A number of exciting incidents follow in quick succession, resulting in the girl and the young man becoming alternately friendly and reproachful toward each other. Owen Moore portrays the chief male character, and the supporting cast includes the noted comedienne, Louise Fazenda, Karl Dane and George Siegmann. At the evening sessions Mr. Walter Kingsley, the eminent English baritone, will sing a number of songs. Supporting films are the third series of screen tests in the Miss New Zealand Competition,” the latest English news gazettes and novelty pictures. The All Soloists’ Orchestra render selections from Sullivan’s operatic compositions as an overture, and a special score of music during the screening of “The Red Mill.”
