BUTTER MARKET DECIDEDLY FIRMER

HIGHER THAN DANISH CHEESE SELLING AT 88 - Cabled advice from London toward the latter end of last week indicates a decidedly firmer tone in the; produce market. The previous week saw a drop from 170 s to 162 s a cwt. Under date June 18, the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company is advised that “Anchor” butter is selling at 1665. This quotation is confirmed by Weddell, Ltd., who add, however, that the market is quiet. Danish is quoted by Weddell and Co. at from 162 s to 1645, again slightly below the New Zealand product. The market for cheese is also firmer, New Zealand selling up to 88s. while Canadian is quoted up to 102 s a cwt. This week sees the introduction of free mareting again. Though there are operators who would forecast higher values, it must be remembered that the board has been most reticent the butter and cheese disposed during the last few weeks, and the holdings at Home must be considerable, apart from the fact that the quota or butter yet to leave these shores before the season’s stocks are cleared are heavier than was the case at this hme last year. That the market is not a great deal worse than last year can be taken from jne fact that London quotations under oate June 19, 1926, gave finest New w k? nd butter at 1745, with a downt rS te **dency. Danish was selling up 10 178 a. MERCHANTS’ QUOTATIONS Under date June 17, A. H.
