THE NEW REGENT

FASHION SHOW A RIOT “Dazzling, gorgeous, spectacular are but poor adjectives to apply to the special ‘Fashions for Women’ programme, presented to a delighted house. Well may the management claim for the display that it is the fashion show of the year, for it is one that will be remembered weeks after the programme has ended. Seldom before have Aucklanders had the privilege of witnessing a more lavish display. To the gentler sex the programme is one that will set them talk ing for weeks and to mere man it is more than ordinarily attractive. “Full use has been made of the New Regent’s unique stage possibilities. “With the rise of the curtain is displayed a dazzling spectacle. “A crowded house at once showed its appreciation in a burst of clapping. “Exclusive creations (from Messrs. Milne and Choyce), well able to be compared -with those seen in the fashion film which follows, are displayed in such a way that it is an easy task to imagine that the mannequins of the film story have stepped out of the picture and are parading in life, right before one’s eyes. It is a Paris fashion display in our own city. “In the glare of a hundred lights the mannequins parade. “The setting is a triumph of stage art.” These are but a few of the praiseworthy expressions used by an enthusiastic Press in describing to the public of Auckland the glorious fashion parade being presented this week in the New Regent Theatre in conjunction with Messrs. Milne and Choyce. The exhibition has taken Auckland by storm, and on Saturday night a mighty audience, thrilled to an unprecedented pitch of enthusiasm, burst into thunderous applause the moment the glittering setting was revealed. Each mannequin was accorded a wonderful reception, and the dazzling finale was nothing less than a riot. The Regent and Messrs. Milne and Choyce must be given credit for presenting to this city a display equal to those beautiful exhibitions usually associated only with Paris, London and New York. The synchronised music arranged by Maurice Guttridge adds charm to the parade. The Paramount film, “Fashions for Women,” is everything that its title suggests. Never before have such amazing creations as those worn by Esther Ralston and the models in the lavish show been shown on the screen. Eddie Horton contributes further popular seelctions, and the “Miss New Zealand 1927” official film is full of local interest. Patrons are advised to reserve seats at the theatre, phone 46-888.
