Oysters Scarce

DEMAND CONTINUES DEALERS RATIONED Men standing on the edge of the pavement growling. Others issuing from a doorway every now and then to join in the hymn of hate, and pass on their way still muttering. No, not the Government Labour Bureau, merely another Government department—the oyster depot on the Auckland waterfront; and the men, dissatisfied dealers who have, not been able to secure their full orders. Such was the scene which was presented to a SUN man yesterday. The demand continues and, while as yet the public have able to satisfy their requirements at the depot, a shortage of supplies has made it necessary to ration the wholesale buyers' quotas. Thus the dealers’ lament. Oysters in the shops sell freely at 3s 6d a pickle bottle.
