TALE OF A DOG
YOUNG MAN’S THEFT A COSTLY ANIMAL When Walter Reid Hill came up for sentence at the Police Court yesterday for stealing a dog valued at £lO, according to police instructions he was to have been accompanied by the animal. Thereby hangs a tale. "He has come up for sentence and he was to produce the dog,” said ChiefDetective Cummings. “We cannot find the dog,” said Hill's counsel. “He has three previous convictions for theft,” said Mr. Cummings, “but he has not been before the court for three years. He came out of gaol in 1924 after doing 12 months for breaking, entering and theft,” explained the chief-detective further. “Not a very good record for a man of 22,” observed Mr. McKean, S.M. Hill was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months. He is required to make restitution, of £lO to the owner of the dog and to pay £2 8s 6d witnesses* expenses..
