RELIEF NEEDED

FROM TRANSPORT LAW RESIDENTS IN FAR SUBURBS The Motor Omnibus Traffic Act was strongly condemned by representatives of suburban local bodies at a pre-ses-sional conference with Messrs. A. Harris, M.P., W. E. Parry, M.P., and H. G. R. Mason, M.P. The local bodies represented included: —Mount Eden, Newmarket, Onehunga, Avondale and Takapuna Borough Councils; the New Lynn and Ellerslie Town Boards; the Tamaki and One Tree Hill Road Boards. A representative of the Master Carriers’ Association was also present. It was stated that the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act needed reform in the interests of the suburban families who lived three miles from the tram terminus and the railway station. The only hope of relief, was the opinion expressed. lay in a transport board. The members were asked to try to clear up the disputed question of whether Ipcal bodies should pay licence fees on their own motor lorries, and also to obtain relief for local bodies from liability for accidents occurring when drivers were being tested for licences.

The members expressed the opinion that the Motor Omnibus Act should be amended in the interests of those folk who were dependent on the buses for transport.
