Spikes on Railway Line.—John Henry Grayson and John Simpson, who placed spikes on the railway line, were admitted to probation for 12 months by the Gisborne magistrate to-day.
Fine Alluvial Gold Specimen.—Exhibited in a window of Denison’s, Jewellers, Queen Street, is a fine specimen of alluvial gold. Weighing 3oz 4dwts, it was won from the King Solomon mines, Southland, last month.
Community Singing. Community singing will spread happiness at the Strand Theatre next Wednesday from 12.30 o'clock to 1.30 o’clock. Mr. W. J. Holdsworth will take the chair. Admission will be free, and a collection will be taken up for distribution to charities.
Took Wheels from Motor.—‘ Your object was to play with the wheels, and not to make money, but you took them.” said Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., to a :L4-”ear-old boy who had taken wheels from a motor-car which had been partially destroyed by fire. The lad was admonished and discharged.
Salvage Dispute Settled.—An amicable settlement has been reached in the dispute between the Gisborne Harbour Board and the New Zealand Shipping Company about the salvage of the steamer Northumberland. The board agreed to accept the company’s cheque for £8,191 in full settlement of all claims.
Auckland City Mission.—To-morrow evening, at the Hippodrome Theatre, services will be held in connection with the Auckland City Mission. The Rev. Jasper Calder will take as his subject, ‘’Pilgrims of the Night.” By permission of the Humphrey Bishop Company, Mr. Walter Kingslej' and Mr. John Montfort will contribute solos. The doors will be opened at 6.30 o’clock and the service will begin at 7.30.
