HANDSOME WORKSHOPS
JUBILEE INSTITUTE OPENING TO-MORROW The handsome workshop block of the Jubilee Institute for tine Blind, at the corner of Parnell Road and George street, will be opened to-morrow afternoon by the Hon. Sir Edwin Mitchelson, K.C.M.G., M:.L.C. The building and fittings cost £15,000, which was generously subscribed by the public of Auckland, and subsidised £ for £ by the Government. It was designed by Messrs. Gumraer and Ford, and erected by the Fletcher Construction Company. On the sunny side is an attractive courtyard, with pillared verandah. The workrooms are airy and spacious, and form a remarkable contrast to the confined old wooden buildings now in course of demolition. To-morrow afternoon the workers will be engaged at their various interesting tasks, and the public will have an opportunity of seeing how, by courage and perseverance, the great difficulties of blindness can be overcome. Music by the Ponsonby Boys’ Band, tea, and a sale of goods will contribute to an interesting afternoon. Among the speakers will be Sir Thomas Mackenzie and Mr. H. E. Vaile, chairman of the institute. A photograph of the workers making baskets appears in the pictorial section to-day.
