NORTH SHORE WATER

POSITION CRITICAL NEW SUPPLY WANTED That the position in respect to the supply from Lake Pupuke was sufficiently critical as to make it imperative that steps should be taken to bring in a new supply without further loss of time, was the opinion given by the Auckland Water Commission dealing with the supply of water to the North Shore boroughs. It was considered, however, that Lake Pupuke was too valuable a source of supply to be discarded. The report stated that it should be retained, not only for use in emergencies, but as a permanent part of the water supply of North Shore. ... The commission also stated that the question of the selection of the Waitakere scheme against the Rangitopuni one resolving itself into one of price as against quality, was peculiarly one for the ratepayers of the North Shore boroughs.
