APPERLY AND SMITH PLAY OFF By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright SYDNEY, Thursday. The semi-finals in the New South Wales amateur golf championship were played to-day in showery weather. Both matches were keenly contested. E. Apperly and Ivo Whitton were all square at the end of the morning round,' and in the afternoon Whitton was 2 up with 6 to play. Apperly then made a. great effort and squared the match at the 15th hole and evntually won, 1 up. Smith was 1 up on Russell after the first is holes, and, though Russell twice squared the match, the younger player hung grimly to his task and W’on, 1 up. A small party of the New Zealand golfers who are staying on in Sydney will fulfil the remaining fixtures.
