HOSPITAL FEES

COMPLAINT IN WANGANUI MAYOR WANTS REDUCTION (Special to THE SUN.) * WANGANUI, Thursday. The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, considers the extra fee charged to inpatients at the public hospital a distinct hardship, particularly for the average person in Wanganui. To pay £ & 3s per week for treatment was enough without being saddled with any extra charge. Personally he was in favour of free hospital treatment. He moved that the officer in charge of the radiology department be paid a straight-out salary and not on a profitsharing system. Dr. Skerman said the X-ray department had been established for the benefit of the district and it had been recommended as a department that would pay for itself. The board could not afford to run it for charity alone. Mr. Rogers's motion was defeated.
