ROTORUA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Rotorua Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. McDowell, piesiding'. The proposal, originating with the Women’s Club of Rotorua, to establish a maternity ward at the King George Hospital, has received the unqualified approval of the AVaikato Hospital Board, and it is the intention of the local council to do fts utmost to further the project. Rotorua is already exceptionally well endowed in medical and hospital facilities, and the addition of a maternity ward to the King George Hospital will prove an invaluable and much desired adjunct. A committee of councillors recently motored through the Mamaku Bush Road, and were able to report this important highway to be in a better condition than it has been in any previous year. With a modicum of proper care the road will be negotiable all through the winter, and no one need be deterred from making the trip. A total length of not more than 150 yards may occasion temporary difficulty should protracted spells of very wet weather occur. This particular section will receive every attention. The steady improvements being effected by the council to the roads and footpaths of the borough have made systematic inspection of the fireplugs very necessary. The latter are in danger, unless very cafefully guarded, of becoming choked or obscured. Joint responsibility for their protection will probably be undertaken by the Tourist Department and the borough council.
