Injured Quarry Worker. Mr. Daniel Barry, who was injured in a blasting accident at Panmure on Tuesday, is progressing favourablv.
Murdered His Wife. —George Buckley, found guilty of murdering his wife at New-castie, has been condemned to death.
School Tree-planting. —No fewer than 50 trees were planted by children and parents at Waimauku School this week, mostly of native varieties.
Ticket Tax Refused. —The Devonport Ferry Company will not entertain the suggestion of the Devonport Borough Council to increase the tax levied on tickets issued on the company’s steamers to Rangitoto; the present levy is Id.
Ambassador Entertained. Baron Moneheur, the retiring Belgian Ambassador to Britain, and the Baroness Moneheur were the guests of the Lord Mayor, Sir Rowland Blades, and the Lady Mayoress at a dinner at the Mansion House.
Poor Game Season. —The majority of spoitsmen in Opotiki consider the present shooting season a very poor one—very few good bags being recorded to date. One sportsman is reported to have secured between 20 and 30 pheasants, but this appears to have been an exceptional “bag.”
