DEVONPORT BOROUGH
At the meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening the matter of compelling all householders to provide new water meters was again postponed pending information from the Auckland University regarding certain aspects of meters. The clerk is to inquire into the legality of making charges for the meters.
Tenders are to be called for levelling Stanley Bay Park. Steps are to be taken to check speeding by limousines on the Takapuna services. A sum of £SO is to be spent on levelling off the site for the new hauling-up ground for boats along King Edward Park. The suggestion of the Health Department that the intake pipes for the pumps at Lake Pupuke be extended is deferred until the report of the Water Supplies Commission is dealt with.
A ratepayer endorsed the scheme for cutting down the trees on Mount Victoria, and wanted eight at the rear of his property removed immediately. The Mayor said that two experts had supported the plan to cut down the trees, but they advised keeping some of them for a time. Tenders ate to be called at once for the removal of trees marked for destruction.
