“THE RED MILL”
MAJESTIC TO-MORROW “The Red Hil,” a delightful musicitl of comedy evergreen popularity, has been adapted to the screen as a starring picture tor Marion Davies, the beautiful star of “Yolanda,** “Lights of Old Broadway,” “Beverley of Oraustark,” and “Zander the Great.” This picture is coming to the Majestic Theatre tomorrow.
It is a new Marion Davies that this play has given to the screen—a lightcome, colourful creature of evanescent moods and charming little ways—with a whimsical sense of humour and an amazing capability for poignant dramatic acting—and looking very charming in a quaint Dutch costume, with wooden shoes and blonde pigtails.
The story is a romance of Holland—at times verging on the tragic, with a number of thrills and an eric adventure in a haunted mill. But throughout it teems with comedy—uproarious situations between Miss Davies and her Irish lover, played by Owen Moore; a hilarious love affair between Karl Dane, of “The Big I’urade” fame, and Louise Fazenda, a talented comedienne. The story was adapted from the musical comedy by Victor Herbert and Henry Blossom; “The Bed Hill,” one of the most widely known stage successes of late years. Adapted to the screen, the dramatic elements of its Plot and all its lightsome comedy vein kept intact. Miss Davies’s inimitable vein of humour found ready expression and makes a forcible contrast to her clever emotional acting.
