A SUNDAY TRADER
DEFIES THE LAW (From Our Oion Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Thursday. “This man is different from many. He is apparently obstinate about the matter and tries to defy the law and dodge the police. When they accused him he denied the offence. The only thing is to make it too expensive for him to carry on,” commented Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning, when fining Frederick George Sanders, a confectioner and restaurant proprietor, £ 5 for selling cigarettes on Sunday. Defendant had been previously convicted.
In extenuation of the offence, Mr. Lucas said the purchaser was a regular customer.
Defendant’s “regular Sunday customer,” suggested the magistrate.
