FALSE STOCK RETURNS

GAOL FOR FARMER Press Association. GISBORNE, To-day. In the Supreme Court yesterday, Thomas Brosnahan, farmer, was found guilty of obtaining £ 798 from Dalgety and Company by means of false stock returns. He was to-day sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Brosnahan’s son, Aloysius George Brosnahan, pleaded not guilty to a charge of making false returns of stock to Dalgety and Company, thereby obtaining £370. .After hearing the evidence for the Crown, the Judge said the evidence was not more than enough to create a suspicion against accused.. lie might have made returns knowing the figure* to be false, but it might equally be explained that he relied on hi.: father for the figures.

Under the Judge’s direciion, the Jury returned a verdict of not. guilty, and the prisoner was discharged.
