OLD MAN ASSAULTED
SCENE IN A BAKEHOUSE AN UNRULY DRUNKARD A bent and shuffling old man of 79, very deaf, told Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday how Andrew Poison, while drunk, assaluted him by pushing him against an oven door in a bakehouse, thereby injuring the back of his head. The old fellow explained that Poison was very friendly and very drunk when he visited the bakehouse in Richmond Road on Saturday evening. The witness did not know why accused struck him as they were good friends. Poison’s brother-in-law, owner of the bakery, said his relation was quite drunk and there had been a “proper rumpus.” He corroborated the old man’s evidence. On the charge of being drunk Poison was fined 10s, and the assault cost him £2. A further charge of breaking two windows valued at 4s was dismissed owing to insufficient evidence to support the charge.
