CHURCH OF ENGLAND SETTLEMENT SCHEME
THIRTY BOYS ARRIVE CONFIRMATION SERVICE Thirty happy English boys arrived In New Zealand yesterday by the Remuera. While waiting to disembark they danced round the deck, showing how fit they had been kept by the Rev. Frank Harty’s physical jerks and exercises on the journey to New Zealand. The boys have come out under the Church of England Empire Settlement scheme and will go to various parts of the Dominion. On the voyage out Mr. Harty travelled in the third saloon with the boys, acting as guide, philosopher and friend. Every morning he had the boys out on deck, with the result that they were fit and happy when they arrived. One of the boys, mentioned elsewhere, became ill and was operated on. Yesterday afternoon, at Bishopscourt, Parnell, nine of the boys were confirmed by Archbishop Averill. The Archbishop addressed the boys after the beautiful service and impressed upon them that they should not forget their God and Church when starting life in a new country. He told them, too, that there was nothing to stand in the way of success earned by hard work and application. When the Remuera berthed the boys were met by Messrs. W. M. Rayner, A. D. Stanley, J. West, E. Harrowell, J. E. Makgill and J. F. Williams, members of the C.E.M.S. committee.
