Bombers Quell Tribal Raiders
INDIAN FRONTIER AFFAIR
By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. IN the torrid heat of India’s midsummer a squadron of Bri--1 fish planes carried out an effective punitive expedition against tribesmen who had been raiding posts on the north-west frontier of fndia.
Reed. 10.35 a.m. DELHI, Sunday, i A revival of tribal unrest on the north-west Indian frontier near Peshawar has been quelled successfully by
bombing operations of the Royal Air Force.
Raiding tribesmen 1,500 strong, from north of the Kabul River, crossed the
frontier and attacked Mahmand Forts held by tribes friendly to the British. Nineteen planes made attacks extending over four days on the hostile tribes, inflicting many casualties and creating an excellent moral effect. All the machines returned safely. The achievement is regarded as magnificent in view of the fact that it was carried out in a temperature of over 110 degrees. This is the first attack for eight years made on frontier posts in the Peshawar district.—A. and N.Z. ROUND BRITAIN R.A.F. BOMBERS’ TRIAL NON-STOP FLIGHT Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Thirty-two Royal Air Force bombers, fully armed and manned, will commence on Tuesday a 48-hours continuous reliability flight around Great Britain.—A. and N.Z.
