Drainage Loan. —The Kaituna River Board is arranging with the Public Trustee for a loan of £4,000 to improve the river. The Public Works Department will assist with dredges. Limit Too Small. —The Tauranga Borough Council objects to the limit of unauthorised expenditure being fixed at £SO, and asks that the law be amended to enable the council to spend up to £IOO. Perpetual Peace Treaty.— The State Department has notified France that the United States would he pleased to negotiate a possible agreement for a treaty of perpetual peace between the two countries. Struck by Falling Tree. —White cutting down tree on Saturday Colin Reeve, a young man residing at Kinloch Street, St. Albans, Christchurch, was struck on the head by the tree as it fell. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. His condition is serious.

Breach of Prohibition Order.—Pleading guilty to charges of being found drunk in France Street and breaking his prohibition order, Benjamin Thompson, aged 34. was fined 10s on each of the charges by Mr. W. R. McKean. S.M., at the Police Court this morning.

Sydney Wireless Station. —At the Wireless Commission in Sydney evidence was given that the State Government proposed to erect one highpowered central station in or near Sydney, and six relay stations for broadcasting purposes. The scheme wdl also provide an alternative means of communication in the event of the dislocation of the telegraph service.
