AVONDALE METHODISTS’ BUSY WEEK
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES AND PRESENTATION
Avondale Methodists have had a busy time this week attending anniversary church services and a concert and social in connection with their Brown Street Church. The Revs. A. B. Chappell and G. Jackson officiated at the services before a large congregation, while the choir under the baton of Mr. A. Barnes with Miss Thomas at the organ excelled themselves. The concert and social served a dual purpose, opportunity being taken to reflect worshippers’ appreciation of Mr. and Mrs. W. Dowthwaite, the former having resigned from the superintendency of the Sunday School after 12 years service marked by faithfulness and efficiency. Mr. Dowthwaite was handed a chiming ebony-cased clock, and Mrs. Dowthwaite an embroidered supper cloth, the Rev. J. R. Nelson, Masters Eric Austen, Alec Miles and other supporting speakers paying tribute to the recipients’ good work in connection with the Sunday School and church. Subsequently reports and addresses pertaining to church life were listened to after which anthems and solos were rendered by the choir, Misses Thomas. Linfoot and Mr. Barnes. A dainty supper was served. The Superintendent Minister of the Circuit, Rev. A. Ashcroft was present and delivered an address in keeping with his position.
