HUMPHREY BISHOP COMPANY

COMING TO STRAND The Humphrey Bishop Company has been famed for its sparkle and for the surprises which are continually being unfolded. When the company opened at Christchurch early this year the Christchurch “Press” was unanimous in describing the show as one of the finest of its kind to ever visit the Dominion. A month later, when the company paid its return visit, the same paper said: “No better tribute to the popularity of the Humphrey Bishop Company and no more striking indication of the place it holds in the estimation of the Christchurch public could have been offered than the liberal patronage on the company’s reopening night at the Theatre Royal. When the curtain rose every seat in the house was occupied, and unstinted applause encouraged the clever band, of entertainers throughout the sparkling performance. Nothing quite so good of its kind has been seen here.” They play a return and farewell season twice daily on Friday, June 17, at the Strand Theatre, commencing at the matinee, when entirely new productions will be given. Plans are now open. Arthur Hemsley, the well-known Lancashire comedian, will make his first appearance here: also “Scratcher” in new “Scratch erisms.” There will also be an orchestra of.J7 performers.
