COMMUNITY SINGING

What promises to be a most successful season of community singing will begin next Wednesday, June 15, at the Strand Theatre. The “sing,” which is timed for 12.30 p.m. until 1.30 p.m., will be led by the Rev. Jasper Calder, while the chair will be taken by the Mayor, Mr. George Baildon. In past years these functions have proved of great value in bringing citizens together and by radiating goodwill have done much to break down the barriers of reserve usually met with when people of English stock foregather. As in former years song booklets containing popular numbers will be distributed free of cost. Admission is free and in order to cover expenses a collection will be taken, any balance over being given to the non-endowed charities. The committee has been fortunate in securing the use of the Strand Theatre where the “atmosphere” is conducive to warmth and cheer, and the central position of the building should be appreciated by business people whose time is limited.
