EARLY MORNING BLAZE

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE At 2.30 a.m. to-day a call was received to 6 Marama Street, Remuera. The house, which is owned by Mrs. M. R. Thomas, of 32 Water’s Road, Mount Albert, was being renovated at the time. Mr. Thomas, a soil of the owner, was sleeping in the house and had an open fire burning. It is supposed that a spark from this fire was the cause of the blaze. The alarm was given by one of Ambury’s milkmen, who saw what he thought to be steam rising from the house. On investigating he found the front room in flames, and at once gave the alarm at the Cecil Road call-box. The Parnell and Remuera brigades turned out, but two rooms, a passage and the verandah' were destroyed before they could check the flames. The house was insured for £350 in the London and Liverpool Offices.
