CO-OPERATORS JOIN LABOUR PARTY
VOTE OF BRITISH CONGRESS By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Tuesday. The Co-operative Congress at Cheltenham approved of affiliation with the Labour Party by 1,960 votes to 1,843. The opposition to affiliation was based on the belief that politics would introduce strife and bitterness into the co-operative movement. The advocates of affiliation iaid stress on the fact that an agreement between the executives of the two organisations had been reached on the initiative of the co-operatol*s. The Labour Party and the cooperators. they argued, alike aimed at common ownership, while Conservatives and Liberals insisted on private ownership, and the exploitation of the land, capital, transport, and banking.—A. and N Z.
