RECOVERS HIS PROPERTY BUT OFFENDER ESCAPES (Special to THE SUN.') WANGANUI, To-day. A middle-aged man tried to get a pair of boots cheap late yesterday afternoon. He was passing Gemmell’s shop in Ridgway Street and slipped a pair on display outside the shop under his coat and walked toward the railway station. A Maori woman saw the incident and informed Mr. Gemmell. The latter started off in pursuit and got his man near the railway station. A struggle ensued, Air. Gemmell trying to drag the man to the police station. He could not get assistance from the few spectators present and the thief dropped the stolen property and started butting Air. Gemmell with his head. Eventually succeeding in securing his release he jumped over a fence and got clean away.
